ANNUAL CLUB OUTING ON LOCH BRORA 15TH AUGUST 2026 REPORT

A good breeze greeted our ten members to the four club boats in Gordonbush Bay. A couple of late call off’s had forced a slight change of planned boat placings, but all in all things worked out OK (for some). As I said, the wind was the deciding factor, making for quick retrieves of flies before the boat came down on top of them.

The only boat that went through the narrows from the top loch into the middle loch, found willing fish to take a fly, giving them a record breaking outing, boat total.

Though not part of the outing points total, perch featured yet again. Points were awarded for those landed, and were duly dispatched and put back into the water, as instructed. This year’s “perch hunter” was Richard Dickenson with 4 for 30pts with 3 others lost at the net. 9 of these invasive fish were landed overall.

As I mentioned earlier, it was the Golspie boat that showed the rest of us how to beat the odds.

Lenny Mackay (yet again) leading the way, with a healthy score of 58 points, Ian Miller 27pts and James Laraway 30pts, giving a boat total of 115pts.

Within Lenny’s score, which incidently included the two best fish of the day and both sea-trout making 14pts each, gave him both the trophies on offer, the club champion cup and the Eric Robertson Priest. Overall, there were 16 brownies recorded, 1 salmon parr, 1 finnock and 3 Sea trout.

Overall, not a lot of fish were seen breaking the surface but five salmon were seen in Gordonbush bay, out from the big sheds, so fish are well spread out, so it’s just your luck on the day.

This is my last year organising this outing with Willie Sutherland taking over the reins next and would wish that he receives the same support from members that I have had. Most importantly, my thanks to Richard Dickenson, for his support and communicating skills in letting members know the arrangements etc. via emails beforehand. Finally, to the Brora and Golspie clubs in making their boats available to us for this outing.

I still hope to attend these outings in the future and offer my full support in any other way that I can.
